All proceeds will go toward Y programs that benefit local youth
WINSTON-SALEM — Last December’s YMCA Mistletoe Run may have come and gone, but the impact from the annual race will continue to make a difference.
The 38th Annual Mistletoe Run raised $61,319.59 from the race held on December 4 at the William G. White, Jr. Family YMCA. All of the proceeds from this event will go toward programs at the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina that benefit youth in the community. The Mistletoe Run is presented by Bell, Davis & Pitt.
“This race has been a tremendous asset for the youth and their families in our communities for years, and we are so glad to see that tradition continue,” said Danielle Boyd, Associate Executive Director at the Jerry Long Family YMCA, who also serves as the Mistletoe Race Director.
For perspective, the $61,319.59 raised could fund financial scholarships for the Y’s Safety Around Water program for more than 700 children, give more than 140 families access to Before and After School Academy for an entire school year, and give 900 kids the opportunity to play youth sports at the Y.
“The YMCA is a place for everyone to focus on their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. We hope that through these financial scholarships made possible by the Mistletoe Run that we can help more children live healthier lives,” Boyd said.
There were 2,487 runners registered for last year’s race. The majority of participants — 1,401 — signed up for the 5K, while another 745 registered for the Half Marathon, along with another 341 registered for the 1-mile Fun Run.
There were 26 states and two countries represented from the group of nearly 2,500 runners, and the ages ranged from 89-years-old to a 1-year-old who was registered for the Fun Run.
More than 150 volunteers helped make the 38th Annual Mistletoe Run a success not just for the runners, but for everyone who came out to support them, as well.
The 39th Annual Mistletoe Run is scheduled for Saturday, December 3.
