The Y is a place for everyone to improve their health. That’s why we offer evidence-based programs that support those with chronic health issues, as well as those at risk for developing them. Our staff will help you make the best lifestyle choices and learn more to help you navigate any obstacles that may come your way.

LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA

LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA focuses on the person, not the disease. This is a research-based, 12-week program that offers cancer survivors a supportive environment to participate in physical and social activities that focus on mental, emotional, and physical health. Participants have the opportunity to improve their physical strength, flexibility, endurance, and more at no cost.

Diabetes Prevention

Diabetes and prediabetes have become common issues for many adults today. When managed properly, people can go on to live healthier lives. But when it is not, several different health concerns can come into play. The Y has a program that helps you prevent developing type 2 diabetes.

LifeStyle 360 Weight Management

Losing weight in a healthy, sustainable way can reduce your risk to various chronic diseases. LifeStyle 360 gives participants the tools they need to do just that in a supportive space, led by staff who will teach lessons and skills that’ll last a lifetime!

Moving for Better Balance

Falls are the leading cause of death from injury among those ages 65 years and older. Participating in the Moving for Better Balance program can reduce that risk through strength, balance, and flexibility exercises.

Parkinson's Cycle Classes

Parkinson’s Disease affects the body’s nervous system, which can affect a person’s sense of balance and cause stiffness. Parkinson’s Cycling at the Y works with these patients and helps improve their strength and balance in a group setting.

Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring

High blood pressure affects tens of millions of Americans each year, and most of them don’t have it under control, risking them to other health problems. We can help you manage your high blood pressure and learn how to make smarter, healthier choices in the long run.

Brenner FIT® Teaching Kitchen

We've teamed up with Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist's Brenner FIT® Program to host free cooking and nutrition classes at the Brenner FIT® Teaching Kitchen at the William G. White, Jr. Family YMCA. The Brenner FIT® program is a family-centered, evidence-based approach to weight management.

Blood Drives

The YMCA of Northwest North Carolina has partnered with the American Red Cross, hosting several blood drives at branches across our association in an attempt to meet the ever-increasing demand for blood supply.

Health Screenings

There are so many ways you can focus on your health and wellbeing. But in order to get the best start on your journey, it may help to learn about YOU. The Y’s health screenings can give you a better sense of your current state of health, making your wellness journey that much easier to navigate.

Our Mission: "Helping all people reach their God-given potential in spirit, mind and body."
